- Don’t Engage with Strangers
You don’t have to answer calls, texts, or emails from people you don’t know. If someone calls, say:
“I don’t do business over the phone. Goodbye.” Then hang up. Trust your gut—if something feels off, pause and check with someone you trust.
- Beware of Pressure Tactics
If someone is rushing you to act fast, it’s always a scam. Scammers want you to hurry so you don’t think.
- Do not purchase gift cards for payment
If anyone asks you to buy gift cards for payment, it’s a scam. No exceptions.
- Don’t Follow Secret Instructions
If someone tells you what to say to a bank teller, cashier, Bit Coin ATM operator to get you to send money, hang up. Ignore future calls.
- Avoid Clicking Random Links
Never click on links in texts unless you have asked for them. Government agencies will never text you for payments or fines. FedEx, UPS, or other shippers won’t text you either.
- Use Tap-to-Pay or Mobile Wallets
These methods protect your card from being stolen by criminals.
- Track Your Money with Banking Apps
Set up alerts so you know when and where your money is spent. If you are a PSALC customer we can help you do this, just stop in and we will help you set it up.
- Don’t Allow Remote Access to Your Computer
If you have technology issues, contact the official company directly (from their actual website not a search site). Real companies won’t take control of your computer or charge you money to fix it.
- Avoid “Too Good to Be True” Deals
If a website offers prices way below normal, it’s likely fake or trying to steal your card info.
- Verify Messages and Calls
Scammers can fake voices, videos, and emails—even from people you know. If you receive a suspicious request, use a different method to confirm that it is legitimate. (e.g., call them directly).
