FedEx and Texting Scams

This is a FedEx scam that we have been seeing for awhile, but it has recently resurfaced. I wanted to point out a few ways you can spot scams. I will go over each picture and show you what to look for in a scam.

The first picture is the actual text received on the phone.   Notice the reason here.  Also notice that the actual link to the internet site is not a FedEx site.  All FedEx sites will end with https://something.fedex.com/something or just https://fedex.com/something.

If you click on the link you will be presented with a page that very much looks like a FedEx site.  There are a few items here to also tell you that it is a scam.

1. First if you look at the address it is fede-x.com easy to look over, but still not a FedEx address.  They will then give you a bogus number. Always open a new browser window and check the tracking number.  Here is the FedEx site to track the number.https://www.fedex.com/en-us/tracking.html  Typing that number in will result in the tracking number not found.
2. You will also notice that the reason they were unable to deliver the package has now changed to no one was present to sign.
3. Next is the warehouse.  This one doesn’t exist near where the package was going to be delivered.
4. Scams almost always give you a sense of urgency.  Scammers know that the more fearful or more rushed you are the more likely they will get what they want.

The next page you will be presented with is the “Schedule new delivery” page.

1. This page has a different reason than the first one.  Another indication it is a scam.
2. The date changes based on the day.  Visiting the site (NOT recommended if you receive one of these texts.) will result in the date changing.

If you would continue and go to schedule the pickup you would notice that they ask you to pay money (a very small sum) and ask a number of personal questions i.e. name, address, date of birth, credit card number etc.

You should NEVER give a credit card to a shipper as you or the company you ordered from will always have paid the shipping up front.  There will never be “extra” charges to re-deliver.

Two things to wrap this up.

2. If you ever see a FedEx scam they want you to alert them by following the link above and click on “Email FedEx” to report the fraud, or send an email to them about the fraud here  abuse@fedex.com.
